ST. PAUL, Minn. (GRAY) – Minnesota DFL lawmakers and advocates gathered at the state capitol on Monday to push back on an announcement from President Donald Trump calling for the revocation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for “Somalis in Minnesota.”
The President’s remarks came Friday night as part of a post on Truth Social.
The post seemingly pins recent fraud on the state’s Somali community, a notion that lawmakers pushed back on Monday.
“If your assumption is that we should all be collectively held responsible for the fact that 57 people have committed a crime and are being held accountable and are going to jail, then that’s your prerogative,” said U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN05).
