GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - 911 dispatchers serve as a crucial tool in the fight against domestic violence, often becoming the first person to speak with victims seeking help.
Jon Rosenlund, director of the 911 center for Grand Island and Hall County, said domestic violence calls can be among the most stressful situations dispatchers handle. When these calls come in, dispatchers must quickly gather information about potential drug involvement and whether weapons are present in the home.
“All of this information the dispatcher can assemble together and try to piece together some information that officers and deputies will need to protect themselves but also provide life-saving care to those who are in harm’s way,” Rosenlund said.
