AKRON, Ohio — The family of Jazmir Tucker has filed a wrongful death suit against both the city of Akron and multiple members of the police department, nearly a year after the 15-year-old was shot and killed by a city police officer on Thanksgiving night.
The 37-page lawsuit, filed Monday in Northern Ohio U.S. District Court, accuses Officer Davon Fields of using excessive force when he fatally shot Tucker "without justification" on Nov. 28, 2024. The complaint also alleges "a long-standing policing problem that disproportionately impacts people of color" within the Akron Police Department, referencing multiple high-profile use-of-force cases in the last several years alone.
Besides Fields and the city as a whole, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik and Police Chief Brian Harding are both named
