FARGO — Fargo’s first-ever employee engagement survey is painting a complicated picture inside City Hall.

Most workers say they’re committed to the job, yet nearly a third are thinking about leaving, and many describe morale problems tied to workplace culture and politics.

The anonymous survey, conducted by CPS HR Consulting of California through an online form, included more than 80 questions and allowed employees to make comments. It also asked city employees whether they plan to stay with the city or leave within the next year.

“We have to be extremely competitive to hold on to people if we're going to keep them," Mayor Tim Mahoney said.
