MONTGOMERY, Ala. ( WSFA ) - Dry conditions across the state have been a concern of the Alabama Forestry Commission for months. Now, they’re calling on the public to help mitigate the impacts of the drought.
“Our message has remained the same: asking stakeholders across the state to postpone any burning at this time due to the dry conditions,” said Balsie Butler, assistant division director with the AFC.
Butler said the state would need another roughly eight inches of rain in the next month to get back on the right track.
Butler said that tackling the ongoing drought is not just up to the AFC or firefighters.
“The public is absolutely a phenomenal participant in this process,” he said.
Butler advised people not to light outdoor fires until the AFC determines that conditions are safe
