Winter storm watches have been issued across wide portions of western and north-central New York, where forecasters say some communities could see more than 7 inches of lake-effect snow - and localized totals close to a foot - during peak Thanksgiving travel .

The National Weather Service in Buffalo issued multiple winter storm watches Monday, warning of hazardous travel, whiteouts, and strong winds capable of causing isolated power outages beginning Wednesday evening.
