East Lothian children were brought indoors as police swooped on the area following a report of a 'person with a weapon nearby'.
The alarm was raised at around 3.40pm on Monday, November 24, after the concerning call was made to police and staff at Windygoul Primary School in Tranent.
Police say they received a report of a person possibly being in possession of a weapon on the nearby Moffat Walk as officers carried out a search. Children attending the after school club and nursery were also brought inside to play, as a precaution.
An email, seen by Edinburgh Live, was also sent to parents informing them of the decision to bring children inside due to a police incident. It is understood parents and carers were still able to collect their children during this period.
