An East Lothian motorist who caused the death of three school friends in a horror crash 12 years ago has been banned from the road after admitting to driving a motorbike while drunk. Robbie Gemmell, then aged 16, was behind the wheel of his pal’s Peugeot 206 when he lost control and ploughed the car into a brick wall on a country road in East Lothian in 2013.

Gemmell initially claimed he was a front seat passenger and car owner Jenna Barbour had been driving, but he later broke down and confessed after an investigation proved he was the driver. The crash that shook the community in Dunbar, East Lothian, claimed the lives of Jenna, 18, along with fellow passengers Joshua Stewart, 16, and 15-year-old David Armstrong.
