CARROLL COUNTY, Ark. (KY3) - Horse owners across the country are on high alert after an outbreak of Equine Herpesvirus (EHV) that started at a barrel racing event in Texas .
According to a U.S. Equestrian Federation report, the outbreak now includes 28 cases in eight states. Though no cases have been reported in Arkansas, the Carroll County Fairgrounds has suspended all equestrian events as a precautionary measure.
John Swallow, president of the Carroll County Fair Board, said he watched the outbreak closely after hearing about it and decided to pause all equestrian events until officials feel it’s safe to resume.
“You don’t want to step out there and get yourself in that light,” Swallow said. “We just don’t want to do that. We want to help keep the spread of the virus down as much as
