A man has been arrested as part of an investigation into large-scale illegal tipping of waste at a site in Oxfordshire, the Environment Agency said.

Earlier this month, shocking images laid bare the scale of what officials say is one of Britain’s worst-ever fly-tipping crimes: a 500ft-long, 50 ft-wide mountain of shredded waste dumped in one go on a floodplain beside the River Cherwell near Kidlington.

Cooperation between enforcement officers from the major Investigation team and the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit secured the arrest of the suspect. The Environment Agency said the 39-year-old male is from the Guildford area in Surrey.
