An eight-inch cast iron pipe fractured earlier Tuesday morning, November 25, 2025, flooding the intersection of Kirkwood Highway and Milltown Road and closing a portion of Route 2.

The rupture took place before 5 a.m. and sent water cascading down the roadway.

The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) closed the westbound lanes of Kirkwood Highway and set up lane restrictions around the rest of the intersection.

Artesian Water crews will be working to repair the main.

DelDOT said the water caused significant road damage as well and the westbound lanes of Kirkwood Highway would remain shut down for most of the day.
