PORTAGE, MI — A train hit a semitrailer in Portage, blocking traffic, police said.
At 9:23 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, police were called to the crash in front of 8850 Shaver Road.
The train had struck the trailer of a semitruck, causing the truck and trailer to separate. The truck driver was uninjured.
The train came to rest about 1,000 feet south of the point of impact. The locomotive and railcars had minor damage from the crash and remained upright.
The northbound lanes of Shaver Road remained closed at 11:20 a.m., police said, but they are expected to reopen shortly.
Businesses on the east side of the tracks will remain blocked in for several hours during the investigation and removal of vehicles.
