LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day in 1971, Nebraska football faced Oklahoma in what became known as the “Game of the Century.”

Both the Huskers and Sooners went into that game undefeated. Oklahoma led the nation in total offense while the Huskers led in total defense.

The game is widely remembered for Johnny “The Jet” Rodgers’ legendary 72-yard touchdown punt return.

Nebraska won the game 35-31, paving the way for the Huskers’ second straight national championship.
