EVERY decade can lay claim to being crammed with significance, but the historical status of the 1960s as a period of change, often dramatic, for just about every walk of life cannot be overestimated.
And in our latest edition of Memory Lane , we turn the spotlight on the Swinging 60s.
It began with the abolition of National Service, immediately freeing up the young generation to raise more than a few eyebrows as they enthusiastically took their place in a cultural revolution that saw fashion, the mini-skirt and all, banish the colourless elements of post-war Britain.
Designer Mary Quant led the way in the world of fashion for the masses with her signature item of clothing, the mini-skirt, and model Twiggy was the poster girl.
