DALLAS — Dallas Fire-Rescue's Hazmat team is responding to an underground gas leak Tuesday in Downtown Dallas, leading to evacuations and road closures in the area, officials say.

DFR says their crews, including their HazMat team, were called shortly after 9 a.m. to the site in the 300 block of North Market Street in the West End area and found a 6-8 inch gas main was leaking.

Two commercial and two residential buildings were evacuated, temporarily displacing 270-300 people, officials say.

"At this time, accommodations for the residents are not needed, but the City's Office of Emergency Management and Disaster Response is on standby in case coordination is needed in that regard," Dallas Fire-Rescue said.
