A former Morris County freeholder and Parsippany resident faces several years in prison after pleading guilty to taking thousands of dollars in bribes, authorities announced Tuesday, Nov. 25.
John Cesaro pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery in official and political matters and faces five years in prison when he is sentenced in January, per the terms of his plea agreement, Attorney General Matthew Platkin said.
Cesaro took $7,700 in bribes in 2018 from a cooperating witness and in return promised to use his influence on the County Freeholder Board to hire or continue to retain the law firm of the cooperating witness, who is a tax attorney, for government legal work, Platkin said.
As part of his guilty plea, Cesaro is also barred from holding public office again, Platkin said.
