ANN ARBOR, MI — A legal team from the University of Michigan is fighting for the rights of four immigrants who’ve been detained for months at the North Lake Processing Center near Baldwin.
All four men first came to the United States years ago — from Mexico and Guatemala — and have deep family ties here, no criminal records, and are active, contributing members of their communities, according to the Civil Rights Litigation Initiative at the UM Law School.
CRLI argues they should get the chance to go home and be with their families as their deportation cases are pending.
A federal judge in Detroit sided with them Monday, Nov. 24, ordering the four men are entitled to a hearing to determine whether they should be released on bond.
