The city of Saraland has agreed to pay a $30,900 fine over construction runoff from its new $72 million “The Land” sportsplex, which environmental officials say flowed into nearby wetlands and Bayou Sara.

In a negotiated settlement with the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), the city acknowledged stormwater from the site had carried sediment and other pollutants into state-protected waters and that required erosion controls were not properly installed or maintained during construction.
