SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The Civic Center BART station has reopened after being closed Tuesday due to an electrical fire. According to BART, there was an equipment problem on the track. The San Francisco Fire Department initially told KRON4 it was investigating a "possible" explosion in the area.

In a subsequent update posted to social media, SF Fire reported a fire at the station. Video from the Citizen app showed a large amount of smoke visible on Market Street emitting from the area around the station.

In a later update, SF Fire confirmed that an electrical fire broke out on the third rail at 11:30 a.m. Crews quickly extinguished the fire with a dry chemical extinguisher.
