SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- One week after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents allegedly showed up at a Hayward school and triggered a car chase outside an Oakland school, an ICE spokesperson said Bay Area schools were not targeted for immigration enforcement.
The spokesperson told KRON4 Tuesday, "ICE has not been conducting operations in local schools." Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin wrote in a previous statement, "ICE is not going to schools to make arrests of children."
According to Oakland city officials, a grandfather had just dropped off a child at school in West Oakland when ICE agents in SUVs chased his car along residential streets November 19. The fleeing car crashed on 31st Street head-on into a parked car owne
