A Kenai man has been sentenced to prison for sexually abusing young children in a case that stemmed from years of investigation and victim disclosures.

On November 19, Kenai Superior Court Judge Lance Joanis sentenced 33-year-old Jeremiah Barton to 15 years in prison with eight years suspended, leaving seven years to serve, after Barton pleaded guilty to a consolidated count of Second-Degree Sexual Abuse of a Minor.

Upon release, Barton will be subject to 15 years of felony probation and will be required to register as a sex offender.

The case dated back more than a decade, involving abuse that occurred between 2011 and 2013, when Barton had access to children whose care was being provided by his mother through a licensed daycare operated from their Kenai home.
