The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly will hold a public hearing Dec. 2 on a proposed ordinance that would add two full-time 911 dispatcher positions at the Soldotna Public Safety Communications Center, as the borough expands emergency dispatch services to Southeast Alaska.

The Soldotna-based center recently took on additional E911 responsibilities under an agreement with the Alaska Department of Public Safety, after the state’s Northern Dispatch Center in Fairbanks experienced critical staffing shortages. Under the agreement, the State of Alaska reimburses the borough for the cost of providing those services.
