A new law taking effect Jan. 1 will give Hoosiers for the first time the power to know and exercise control over the way their personal data is used by companies, or used at all.

The Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act comes from a priority bill from the 2023 legislative session , authored by Sens. Liz Brown, R-Fort Wayne, and Brian Buchanan, R-Lebanon, and former Sen. Jon Ford of Terre Haute. Businesses have had a three-year ramp to get acquainted with it, Attorney General Todd Rokita said, and he's ready to start enforcing it.
