LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A battle over Nebraska employees’ ability to work remotely is heading to the Nebraska Supreme Court in December.

In November 2023, Gov. Jim Pillen issued an executive order that ended remote work assignments for state employees, with a few specific circumstances in which remote work may be authorized.

The Nebraska Association of Public Employees announced Tuesday that it has been fighting Pillen’s executive order. That argument will appear before the Nebraska Supreme Court Dec. 2.

Shortly after the announcement, NAPE, the union representing over 8,000 Nebraska employees, filed a petition against the executive order and asked the Nebraska Commission of Industrial Relations to order the state to stop the implementation of the order while the petition is pending. T
