A south Alabama BBQ restaurant caught fire Tuesday afternoon after a blaze spread that originated in a building next door.

According to the Mobile Police Department, the Mobile Fire Rescue Department responded to a fire on 2350 St. Stephens Road where Rodgers B-B-Q is located.

But it was determined that the fire began in the building next to the restaurant. Both Rodgers B-B-Q and the other building are owned by the same individuals.

The police department said that the neighboring structure was lost while the restaurant only sustained minor damage.

Everyone in the restaurant evacuated safely, police said and social media reports demonstrate that emergency first responders were still working the scene around 3 p.m.

The restaurant has been a popular spot since 1978.
