MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Wisconsin election observers who are removed from polling sites must be given a written order explaining why they are being rejected, the state’s bipartisan elections commission confirmed during a meeting Tuesday.

The Wisconsin Elections Commission clarified the requirement as part of ongoing efforts to establish clear rules for election observers ahead of the state’s Supreme Court election in April.

“I think that’s important that the person hands them that when they are removed,” said Bob Spindell, a Wisconsin Elections Commission member. “You know, the purpose of that is if they have any problems, they can go to their particular Democrat or Republican Party attorney and show that.”

The commission hopes to finalize an observer brochure by February.
