WASHINGTON (WABI) - Congressman Jared Golden, D-Maine, is among a group of lawmakers pushing for the release of LIHEAP Funds.

LIHEAP, also known as the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, helps people with costs of heating during the colder weather.

About 6 million Americans rely on the program including 45,000 Mainers.

The lawmakers are asking the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to release funds by the end of the month.

Funding is usually released at the start of November, but due to the government shutdown, the release of those funds were delayed.

In a letter to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the lawmakers write:
