“Pulaski countians have much for which to be thankful. As families gather with bowed heads around a sumptuous meal today it might (do) well to remember others — police officers, firefighters, hospital workers and others, who for whatever reason, must postpone the feast, rearrange schedules, eat apart from their loved ones or maybe not eat a holiday meal.”
Those words were first printed in the Commonwealth Journal in 2016, written by the late editor emeritus Bill Mardis, who typically spent a day or two leading up to Thanksgiving checking in local public service agencies on how they would be observing the holiday. Mardis passed away in 2021, but for those in the community who are often taken for granted, Thanksgiving traditions continue.
