LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) Chief Paul Humphrey is defending one of the two officers who fatally shot an alleged armed robbery suspect just before midnight on Saturday, Nov. 22.
According to police, officers Patrick Norton and Richard Waller were responding to an area where someone had just called 911 and said they were robbed at gunpoint. The officers located someone who matched the suspect description.
"Officers made contact with the suspect who started to flee, while at the same time producing a handgun. Two LMPD officers subsequently discharged their firearms, striking the suspect," Deputy Chief Ryan Bates said a few hours after the shooting.
