SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Natural gas prices are trading higher than the same date in the past two years as colder weather drives up heating demand, but local utilities say ample supply and cost-saving measures will keep customer bills relatively stable this winter.
David Yonce, with Spire Energy, said the company’s supply situation helps control customers’ costs.
“We’re fortunate in this country that we have a lot of natural gas supplies, which does allow us to offer affordable natural gas to our customers,” Yonce said.
“City Utilities uses additional strategies to manage costs,” according to Jamie Presley with the company. “We purchase natural gas during summer months when prices are lower and stores it for winter use. Fixed contracts also help stabilize pricing during the heating seas
