NEWARK - The opinions on the proposed Phase Two of The Ballantine housing development were very clear: “This is not for the people of color in the city of Newark.”
Residents had the opportunity to voice their concerns about The Ballantine project – a seven-story, 525-unit residential building slated for 412-426 Ferry St. – during a community meeting held by the project’s developers on Monday night; their opposition largely centered on affordability and how this project would serve the longstanding families in Newark’s Ironbound. But whether Monday night’s session can truly be called a "community meeting” is debatable.
