FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — A new statewide report from the University of Arkansas shows tobacco use in Arkansas exceeds the national average.
Nearly 10,000 Arkansans between the ages of 18 and 95 participated in the study, making it the largest health survey in state history.
The survey found that around 24% of adults in Arkansas have used tobacco in the last month, higher than the national average of 18%.
Michael Nino, associate professor of sociology and director of the Arkansas Health Equity and Access Lab at the University of Arkansas, helped conduct the study. He says the findings reflect a broader trend of poor health outcomes statewide.
