Just a few days ago, the concept of releasing the Epstein files was called a “hoax” — a trite characterization often used by President Donald Trump and his MAGA loyalists. House Speaker Mike Johnson echoed and parroted that position.

But when the optics were perceived to have changed, and only after Trump called one of his most ardent supporters — Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga. — a traitor, the president flip-flopped, deciding that would be appropriate to release the Epstein files.

Immediately, Johnson and congressional Republicans jumped into action to follow their marching orders, swiftly passing legislation to require the Justice Department to release the files.
