PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A Woodrow Wilson Early College High School junior has become a published author after turning a classroom writing assignment into a full-length science fiction novel, selling 11 copies of his book Asani , now available on Amazon.

Andersson Gervacio, a junior at the Port Arthur campus, added “published author” to a resume that already includes junior class president and drum major. He said his drive to go beyond expectations pushed him to expand his original work far past its requirements.

“Something in me wanted me and told me to go further, to do more, to go above and beyond so that’s exactly what I did,” Gervacio said.
