SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Over 74,000 South Dakotans receive monthly funds through the SNAP program to help them pay for groceries.
If you talk to the folks at Feeding South Dakota, they will tell you food is medicine. And that’s exactly how Dusty Johnson is hoping to approach SNAP in his effort to be South Dakota’s.
The Congressman and candidate for governor is aiming to take what he’s calling a “nutritious value only” approach to the program.
Dusty Johnson said his “Real Food, Real Freedom” plan would remove certain items that are currently SNAP-eligible from the list in the state.
“One thing we can do is drive down healthcare costs is to live healthier lives. We want to make sure that those dollars are being directed away from candy bars and soda pop and towards eggs,
