LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Foster families across Michigan celebrated Adoption Day on Tuesday, as judges opened their courtroom doors for the annual event.
The Michigan Supreme Court hosted its 23rd Adoption Day event in Lansing, where three children were officially adopted by their forever families.
According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 10,000 children are in foster care.
“Michigan Adoption Day has become a holiday tradition, highlighting the importance of adoption and the need of children in foster care to find a forever family,” according to an MDHHS press release.
For many foster families, the inside of a courtroom brings mixed emotions. Thalia Wells of the Woolley family said the adoption process is overwhelming.
