PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Thorns head coach Rob Gale is departing from the role, the club announced Tuesday evening. The team did not provide a reason for his departure, saying only that he and the club have "agreed to part ways."
The news release announcing his departure also did not specify an effective date, but appeared to imply it was immediate; the club said assistant coach Sarah Lowdon will serve as interim head coach and a search for a new permanent head couch will begin immediately.
Gale joined the Thorns as an assistant coach during the 2023 season and became head coach in 2024. He departs with a record of 28W-21L-10D, having led the club to back-to-back playoff appearances, the news release noted.
