The family of a new Ocala father who was killed in a shooting at an apartment complex over the weekend is seeking answers as the man's shooter remains free after claiming self-defense.

Cristian Olenski Contreras Leiva, 28, was shot and killed Saturday evening at a complex off Northeast 19th Avenue in Ocala.

OPD said officers responded to the area when they got a call from a resident, saying Contreras Leiva had been trying to break into his home.

His younger brother, Christofer Contreras, met WESH 2 at the complex while he and other family members were clearing items out of his older brother's apartment.

Contreras Leiva had been living at the same complex where he was shot and killed, his brother said, even though Ocala Police had said he didn't live at the location.
