MOORHEAD, Minn. — Snowy, icy road conditions in western Minnesota caused several crashes Tuesday afternoon, including a pile-up of semis just east of Moorhead.
The Minnesota State Patrol said speed was the likely culprit for many of the crashes, especially when the road conditions were as slick as they were. Westbound lanes of Interstate 94 were closed for a time near Moorhead after more than a dozen semis piled up around 3:45 p.m., but by 9 p.m., officials said all the vehicles had been towed.
No life-threatening injuries were reported.
The State Patrol says there were 183 crashes (22 with injuries), along with 203 vehicles off the road from noon Tuesday until 9:50 p.m. Troopers also responded to a pair of spinouts and 18 jackknifed semis.
