BATON ROUGE, La. —
Following a WDSU investigation , the head of the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services spoke in depth about her plan to fix the struggling agency.
Deputy Secretary for the Louisiana Department of Children & Family Services Rebecca Harris started in August and acknowledges significant problems within DCFS. Advertisement
"There are a lot of misconceptions that the department works independently, and we don’t and we can’t," Harris said. "The department cannot serve children by ourselves. It requires everyone in the local community; these children are in our neighborhoods. We need to start coming together, being involved in the business of keeping children safe."
The department currently has about 6,000 cases, and about 50% are backlogged.
