Weekend visitors to Newark will get to enjoy free parking for a month starting on December 20, 2025.

Newark's on-street and off-street parking meters will be turned off on Saturdays, Sundays, City Holidays, and December 31 from December 20, 2025-Monday, January 19, 2026 following a unanimous vote of council.

Regular rates will be in effect on weekdays, except for the city holidays.

The shift comes a year after Newark ran a pilot program using Sunday-Tuesday as free parking days, but the city saw $7,000 less in revenue from the 2023-2024 holiday season, when they were initially projecting a $18,631 increase .

In 2023-2024, Newark cut parking rates in half during the holiday season.
