MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Fire officials are warning Granite Staters to be careful in the kitchen this Thanksgiving.

On Tuesday, the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office joined Dover Fire & Rescue and the American Red Cross for a live demonstration on fire safety while cooking.

The demonstration showed how quickly a fire can spread, especially when cooking with oil.

Officials said fires involving cooking oil should not be extinguished with water.

"We always say oil and water doesn't mix, and that's a perfect example of that. It's just a compatibility issues. It doesn't displace it the way it should be. It puts out paper fires and combustibles, but the water and oil don't mix," said New Hampshire State Fi
