MYRTLE BEACH — Paityn Streater typically spends Thanksgiving at her grandma's house watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade .
But not this year.
She will be performing in it, instead.
Streater, a Myrtle Beach High School sophomore, applied to be a cheerleader in the Macy's parade after spotting an Instagram post about it.
She submitted videos showcasing her skills, hoping she’d be one of the approximately 600 cheerleaders from around the country chosen for the Spirit of America Performance team . But she never expected that might actually happen.
Streater didn’t even tell her family she had applied until she got an email saying she had been selected for the team.
