Hundreds of thousands of children in the UK will be lifted out of poverty as the chancellor has announced an end to the two-child limit on benefits .
Unveiling the plans in the autumn budget, Rachel Reeves said: “There is one policy that pushes kids into poverty more than any other. It was introduced by the party opposite.
“They said it would save money and bring about behavioural change, disincentivising poorer families from having more children. Even on its own terms, it failed.”
“What it has done is push hundreds of thousands of children into poverty,” she added.
The two-child limit on benefits, which was introduced by the Conservative government eight years ago, impacts more than 1.6 million children across the country.
