LOUISVILLE, Ky. — This time of year is typically a time of good food, holiday merriment and experiences with friends and family.

But sometimes people can be struggling with grief around the holiday season as well.

Lisa Prewitt, the director of behavioral health outreach at UofL Health – Peace Hospital, said if you are experiencing grief, its okay to give yourself permission to both grieve and share in the holiday spirit.

"The two can co-exist together," she said. "Don’t judge yourself, give yourself moments of grace and time to grieve."

Prewitt recommended increasing any positive coping skills you might have, whether that be reaching out to friends or asking for help.

"One of the hardest things to do is ask for help, but know it’s okay," she said.
