MONROE, La. (KNOE) - The American Lung Association wants everyone to be aware of causes and dangers of lung cancer during Lung Cancer Awareness Month.
Smoking is the leading cause of most cases. Health officials urge everyone to quit or never start.
Other ways to help prevent lung cancer include being in good air spaces indoors and outdoors, getting regular check-ups, and exercising.
“Get screened,” said Eric Wienzettle of the lung association. “Getting screened early and yearly can really improve the likelihood that someone is not able to survive lung cancer but beat lung cancer.”
The rate of new lung cancer cases in Louisiana is 10% higher than the national rate according to the American Aung Association.
