An 18-year-old man has been charged with stealing two electric scooters and a bicycle from Teaneck High School, police said in a press release issued Wednesday, Nov. 26.
Kristian Currie stole the items owned by students on Oct. 14, Nov. 13, and Nov. 20, Teaneck Police Chief Andrew McGurr said.
The first incident occurred Oct. 14 at 3:54 p.m., when an electric scooter valued at $300 was taken from the bicycle rack near the school’s front entrance, the chief said. Another electric scooter, valued at $600, was stolen from the same area on Nov. 13 at 3:34 p.m. A bicycle valued at $293 was taken from the courtyard on Nov. 20 at 12:11 p.m., police said.
Detectives identified Currie, of Teaneck, through surveillance video, according to the release. He was arrested at his house on Nov. 21 without incident and charged with theft, police said.
Currie was then taken to the Bergen County Corrections and Rehabilitation Center pending an initial court appearance.
Police encouraged students and residents to use locks to keep bicycles and scooters secured, noting that criminals “will often seek targets of opportunity, such as an unlocked bicycle or scooter, when targeting items to steal.”
