A man found unresponsive next to his tractor-trailer by news reporters at an Interstate 87 service area in Westchester County was pronounced dead, prompting a police investigation.

The incident happened on Wednesday, Nov. 26, when a 911 call was placed just after 6:50 a.m. after an adult male was discovered unconscious beside his tractor-trailer at the Ardsley Service Area, New York State Police said.

Members of News 12 Westchester, who were at the rest stop reporting on Thanksgiving travel conditions, found the man and immediately began CPR before troopers arrived, according to authorities.

State Police took over life-saving efforts moments later and used an AED, which advised that no shock be administered. Ardsley EMS rushed the man to Westchester Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary findings indicate the incident appears to be the result of a natural medical event, officials said. Investigators from State Police Troop K’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to the scene and are continuing to review the circumstances leading up to the emergency.

The man’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family members.

State Police said further updates will be provided as the investigation continues. Check back to Daily Voice for updates.
