The University of Connecticut's football program is bracing for a major change after head coach Jim Mora announced he's leaving after leading the team to some of its best years in Huskie's history.

Mora, who finishes with a 9-3 record, has accepted a head coaching position at Colorado State University, UConn Athletic Director David Benedict announced in social media posts Wednesday morning, Nov. 26.

“Coach Mora brought energy and a winning culture back to UConn Football and put our program back on the national stage," he said in a statement.

Mora took over in 2022 and helped the Huskies stack up wins fast.

UConn had 27 victories in four seasons and was bowl eligible in three of those. The team also earned back-to-back nine-win seasons for the first time in program history, and the Huskies did not lose a home game this year.

Benedict named offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis as interim head coach. He said a national search for Mora’s replacement will start right away.
