A pedestrian was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on Tuesday night.

Shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday, a Volvo XC90 hit a pedestrian on River Street near Hunter Avenue, according to the Essex District Attorney's Office.

The pedestrian, a 68-year-old man, was taken to Merrimack Health Lawrence Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Volvo driver and an infant passenger were also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

During the crash, the Volvo was struck by a pickup truck and then collided with a third vehicle. The occupants of the other vehicles were not injured.

The crash is being investigated by Haverhill and state police.
